leopard & stripes

Zara Shirt, Lulus Coat, Levi's Jeans (previously here), David Yurman Ring, Marc Jacobs Bag, Sam Edelman Flats (previously here), MAC Lipstick in Brave (raved about this color yesterday here)

I love mixing stripes with lots of different patterns, but I think my favorite is stripes and leopard. It's two classics that are just meant to go together. I wore this outfit for a little shopping over the weekend. It's comfortable, casual, and fashionable.

my 2016 favorites

I'm a consumer through and through. I love a good buy, a new find, or a tried and true. I wanted to feature my favorite products from this past year in ten different categories. Let me know your own favorites from this past year- I'm always in the market for a new one

I featured this Tarte CC Undereye Concealer in this post from November about how I cover dark circles. I read about this product on Sea of Shoes earlier this year and am so happy I popped over to Sephora to try it. It's been a must in my makeup routine and really brightens my eyes.

I loathe hairspray. It makes my hair crunchy and just weird looking. I was sharing my hate of hairspray with a friend, and she recommended Bumble and Bumble's Spray de Mode because of it's flexible hold. I was obviously already a big, big fan of Bumble products so I was willing to give it a try. And I loooove it. My hair doesn't look crunchy or piece-y or weird. It's just really flexible hold, and as an added bonus I think it gives it a nice touch of texture. Still smooth but just a little something to it.

I rave about this lipstick to everyone. Everyone should buy this. I know no one it doesn't look good on. It's MAC in Brave, and I wear it on the daily to work and all the time on the blog (here, here, here, here, here, here). It's actually a bit darker than it looks in the picture. But its the perfect natural looking lipstick that makes your lips look so much better than natural. Plus a bit of a shimmer.

I've blogged about eye cream before, as I'm on a constant search for the best for me. I've been through so many buys and so many samples, until a friend said she recently started using this one. Already a Shiseido skincare super fan (here, here), I was all the more willing to give it a go. This is creamy and so moisturizing and fits into my Shiseido dominated routine perfectly.

When you have a cat, the only part that really stinks (unfortunately, literally) is the litter box. I've tried so many in an attempt to make both me and my cat happy, and each litter box would fall short for at least one of us. This year I decided to make an investment in the litter situation with a Modko litter box, and I'm so happy I did. I will admit that I was smitten with it from the beginning, and Francie had more of an adjustment period, but now we're both rather happy. Lots of privacy for kitten, less mess for me. Win-win.

We drank so much La Croix over the summer at the lake, we're practically connesuers. It's delicious and refreshing and perfect on a summer day. I love trying new flavors, but my tried and trues became lime (everyone's favorite, right?) and coconut

I raved about Sweetbitter back in September here. It was my favorite book by far from the whole year (and possibly the last 5 years). I'll definitely be revisiting it again this year, because it was just that good. Stephanie Danler is a true talent, and I can't wait to read what she writes next.

It was hard for me to pick just one album because I love so much music, so I went with the two that I overplayed the most this year. I wrote about Dig Your Roots by Florida Georgia Line here. It was the perfect album to end the summer with. Drake's album Views came out last Spring before I started my Song of the Week series, so I've never discussed it on the blog, but I really, really loved this one. Give both a listen!

I have been on the search for a perfect black turtleneck for four or five years now. I buy one every season only to Goodwill it at the end. It's been difficult to find one that is tight in the arms but still comfortable and long enough to tuck in or layer and not ride up, and then I found this one by Petit Bateau as I was shopping on a whim during one of Shopbop's sales. It's perfect, and since I purchased it, I wear it often- like here and here

One night while shopping at Nordstrom, my nephew got ahold of this little stuffed animal and wouldn't give it up. And being the type of aunt who rarely says no and is rather fond of spoiling, I ripped off the tag, took it to the register, and bought him this furry little friend. And I am SO glad that I did. It was an immediate attachment, and Parker carries him everywhere. We call him Baby Giraffe, and the happiness he brings that little boy is irreplaceable.

hiking in the burbs

Patagonia Vest, Patagonia Shirt, Zella Leggings, Nike Shoes (previously here)

This is my serious hiking outfit, and my serious hikes include walks in central, suburban Indiana. πŸ˜‚ Typically, I like a McDonald's Diet Coke in hand, but I was getting real about this hike (side note: hiking is just walking).

Ok, a few notes on the clothes - 1. Patagonia does puffer vests so well. They're really fitted which keeps them feminine. 2. I love Zella leggings (here, here, here) and recently added these high waist ones to my wardrobe which I have been lurrrrving.

Today is my Monday after a long holiday break, so I am bluesing hard! Send positive vibes (and vats of coffee)

French Connection Blouse via Von Maur, H&M Skirt (previously here), Marc by Marc Jacobs Bag (previously here), Aldo Shoes, Lips - Stila in Beso

A good work blouse can make you feel like a million bucks. And this one is perfect - silky feeling, a fun poppy print, and super profesh. Paired with a fluted skirt and some sky high heels, and I'm like "Case of the Mondays? What's that??"

🎢 song of the week 🎢

In honor of his new album, Starboy, I thought I'd do a little tribute to The Weeknd. I consider myself an OG fan, since I've been listening to his music since 2013. Most people first started listening to him when he did that song for 50 Shades of Grey and then he came out with Beauty Behind the Madness - all of it really great music, but he had a whole other album before that - Trilogy - that is so, so good. It wasn't his breakout album, but it's really good work, really good jams. And the song that introduced me to the album (thanks to Hot 96.3 in Indy) is Wicked Games.

goodbye, 2016!

I had a great, crazy, ups and downs kinda 2016. It was a big year of growth and change for my blog, and I couldn't have done it without my sister who takes my photos and helps so, so much. So a little thank you note to you, lil baby, you're the best. 😘

Looking forward to seeing you in a few short days, 2017!

the all seasons dress

Topshop Sweatshirt (previously here), J.O.A. Dress via Nordstrom, Marc Jacobs Bag, Superstars, Lips - MAC Liner in Hip 'N' Happy, BareMinerals Lipstick in Bubbles

Another closet restyle similar to last week's all seasons sweater post. This week I prove that a white dress can go all year round. This little J.O.A. number proved to be a sound closet investment (honestly though, it was less than a hundo, so dollar investment was fairly low). Regardless, a sound investment. I styled it here with some statement earrings in the spring, here with black to take it into fall, and now with a sparkly, festive sweatshirt to ease back into life sans holidays.

judge a book by its cover :: my brilliant friend

Dress // Earrings // Bag // Shoes

I'm so excited to read My Brilliant Friend. There has been so much buzz around this book and the author who writes under a pseudonym and has remained anonymous since publishing her (his? who knows!) first book in 1992 (although maybe she was outed - if so for shame! Why do this to someone who wishes to remain unknown?). I obviously had to go pretty bridal for this book look, not that I minded (although my personal dreams and wishes lean more towards the sartorial rather than matrimonial).

i ain't from russia, so why am i rushin'?

ASOS Dress, Hat, Scarf & Shoes all via Von Maur

I love a good hat (I mean... here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here - like omg hats!). Honestly though, the more ridiculous the better. Give me all the faux fur! Give me all the Russian vibes! My family members each laughed at me in turn with this one, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for fashion.

Also, title of my blog post is a little throw back to Pimp Juice

from the books :: a christmas carol

Like most people, I'm very familiar with the story of A Christmas Carol having seen it many times in movies, cartoons, and plays, but I'm ashamed to admit I'd never actually read the book. My mom gifted me this sweet little copy last year, and I've waited all year until the Christmas season came 'round again to read it. And it was wonderful, as I knew it would be. Most probably a personal little Christmas tradition of my own from here on out.

Favorite Quote:

I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

Why You Should Read It:

'Tis the season for this classic.

the all seasons sweater

Free People Sweater, Old Navy Jeans, Gap Hat, Forever 21 Scarf, Tory Burch Bag (previously here), Aldo Shoes (previously here)

I have subconsciously blogged this sweater in all the seasons since I purchased it. First, with shorts in the summer, then with flares and a floppy hat for fall, and now with a chunky beanie and a big ol' scarf for winter. Wondering how I'll restyle it in the spring, because it's bound to happen. Stay tuned.....

GLAMGLOW masks are my jam, y'all. Remember when I raved about THIRSTYMUD back in July? I've been using it for nearly a year now and #cantstopwontstop. And now I've been digging GRAVITYMUD. I bought a little GLAMGLOW sampler during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and this mask was the star. The other week I applied this puppy while chilling at my sister's house- she walked into her living room and immediately said "you look like the tin man" to which I replied "I know! Isn't it cool?" But seriously this mask goes on completely silver and that alone makes it πŸ’―. You apply it with the little brush provided, leave it on for a half hour, and rinse with warm water. Your skin feels tight and smooth, like you're 20 years old again - perfect skin and not a care in the world.

song of the week

Double whammy in this post today - doing a little beauty/music combo, because honestly, who does any beauty routine without a little music? Again, again, thank you Beats 1 - you introduce me to all my new favorite tunes, and I promise to always be loyal and always pimp you on my blog here. πŸ˜‚ I'm a huge Miley Cyrus Bangerz era fan (honestly, best concert I've ever been to in my life), so when lil sis Noah came out with a song I was pumpeddddd. And I love it. Her voice is SO much like Miley's it's nearly identical. And this is just a good jam. Really good, Noah.

decked halls

ASOS Dress, Rebecca Minkoff Bag (previously here), Nine West Boots (previously here)

Hyde Park seriously goes all out for the holidays. One night last week my fam bam and I had a little Jammie Cocoa Christmas Party (idea β„… Mix and Match Mama). We drove around Hyde Park looking at the lights and all the decorations. These houses are so beautiful on their own but when their halls are decked it's a whole other level. We obviously had to make a trip back to the neighborhood to take some pics. (You can see a pic of this house on my Instascram).

I wore this outfit on Thanksgiving, but it was a bit rainy and dreary so I tucked this look away to shoot on a more agreeable day. This dress is festive from Turkey Day all the way through the New Year- love a dress that goes the extra mile.

β˜”οΈ rain day β˜”οΈ

Petit Bateau Turtleneck (previously here), Zara Skirt, Wildfox Hat, Rebecca Minkoff Bag (previously here), Hue Socks (previously here), Hunter Boots

I wish rain days were a thing. Kinda like snow days but just for rain. Sometimes when I'm sitting at my desk at work and it's a rainy, gross day I feel like I should be able to stay home and Netflix and Chill. Seems reasonable, right?

This day was fortunately a Saturday though, so aside from taking these photos we basically did just hang inside, which to me was πŸ‘Œ.

Saylor Dress via Finery, BaubleBar Earrings, Steve Madden Sandals

A few weeks ago I hung out with the gals from Thread for a little holiday dress shoot at Finery, a brand new dress rental boutique in Over-the-Rhine. No need to buy a new dress for every one of your holiday parties this season! Just rent them, Instagram them, and return them! 😜 And the best part of Finery is the dress selection. Patricia, the owner, is not only super sweet, but she has amazing taste. Every dress is gorgeous, and she introduced me to some (new to me) brands (like Saylor which I've officially fallen in love with).

If you're a Cincinnati local, check out her shop at 1412 Walnut Street!

Another work look for y'all! It often pains me to shoot work looks, because I typically find them so boring, but it's a reality of (my) life. A life of button ups and pencil skirts and conservative black heels. But sometimes you find a pencil skirt, that isn't boring and isn't typical work wear. A skirt that racks up the compliments and make you say "yes, I can do this work wardrobe thing with a wee bit of flair."

holiday shopping

Vest via Von Maur (previously here), J.Crew Factory Sweater, Levi's Jeans, Marc Jacobs Bag, Steve Madden Shoes (here in grey), Kat Von D Lipstick in Lolita

Plaid goes hand in hand with the holidays like hot chocolate and sugar cookies. Anytime I can throw on a plaid-esque print during the colder months, I most certainly do (I mean.... here, here, here, here, here). It's a classic, dolls, so let's dominate our winter wardrobes with it. 😘

I wore this look to a cookie decorating class at Sur La Table with my mom over the weekend, and although it was so fun, I think I'll keep my day job, because I'm clearly not a natural born pastry chef. πŸ˜‚

judge a book by its cover :: a christmas carol

Sweater // Skirt // Bag // Shoes

Y'all know how much I love a seasonal read (here, here), and what better than the most classic of the classics for the holidays, A Christmas Carol? It's perfection (and my second Dickens). I did a little holiday style for a book look, and I have to say this might be my favorite collage I've ever done. It just gives me the warm and fuzzy festives. πŸŽ„β€οΈ

holiday picnic

Sachi Coat, J.Crew Sweater, Levi's Jeans (previously here), J.Crew Ring, Hunter Boots, Lips - MAC Liner in Boldly Bare, MAC Lipstick in Brave, Pendleton Blanket

Over the weekend, we did something really cute and fun. We packed up a lil picnic of quiche and cookies and hot cider and took it to the Christmas tree farm. The weather was chilly but the cider warmed us up and then we did a little traipsing around the trees. It was such a fun and festive way to celebrate the season. πŸŽ„β€οΈ
